What is Self Care?

When was the last time you truly took time for yourself?

Perhaps a whole day feels impossible, especially if you're juggling work, family, and the endless demands of modern life. So, let's make the question a little easier. When was the last time you took just an hour or two to do something purely for you? A walk in nature, a yoga class, a long bubble bath, coffee with a friend, an afternoon with a good book, or simply a few moments of peace and quiet.

Self-care means different things to different people, but at its heart, it is the simple act of valuing yourself enough to nurture your own wellbeing. As a busy working mum, I understand how difficult that can be. I'm often the first to admit that my own self-care only happens when I intentionally make space for it and commit to small daily rituals that help me stay balanced, healthy, and grounded.

The truth is, we're all human, and life has a way of taking over.

Without noticing, we can become overwhelmed. Stress creeps in, exhaustion settles, and anxiety begins to colour our days. We reach for quick fixes—a little too much caffeine to get through the morning, comfort food to lift our mood, a glass of wine to unwind at night. Gradually, we lose touch with ourselves, moving from one responsibility to the next, simply surviving rather than truly living.

Before long, we've slipped to the bottom of our own priority list.

Yet self-care isn't selfish. It isn't an indulgence or something to save for when everything else is done. It's an essential part of living a healthy, fulfilled life. When we care for ourselves with the same kindness and compassion we so readily offer others, we create the energy and resilience needed to show up for the people and things that matter most.

Self-care doesn't have to involve expensive spa days or luxury retreats. It can be found in the small, consistent choices we make every day: setting healthy boundaries, nourishing our bodies, moving more, resting without guilt, making time for joy, and giving ourselves permission to simply be.

Every small act of self-care is an investment in the person you are becoming. Each positive habit, each mindful moment, each step towards honouring your own needs creates space for growth, confidence, and happiness.

If you're running on caffeine and adrenaline, constantly putting everyone else's needs before your own, or you've simply lost touch with the person you used to be, you're not alone. And you don't have to navigate that journey back to yourself without support.

I offer one-to-one coaching sessions designed to help women reconnect with themselves, prioritise their wellbeing, and build sustainable self-care practices that fit into real life. Alongside my coaching, I work in mental health and mentor young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, experiences that have deepened my passion for helping others build resilience, confidence, and lives they truly love.

I believe that everyone deserves to feel calm, capable, and connected to who they are.

If you're ready to make yourself a priority and begin your own journey towards greater wellbeing, I'd love to support you.

The greatest investment you can make is in yourself.
